Red Sox Optioned Dalbec After Poor Start to Season

Bobby Dalbec was recalled by the Boston Red Sox on Friday after the team optioned him to Triple-A Worcester on August 12. Dalbec, 26, struggled at the plate in his first stint with the Red Sox this season, batting just .132 with a .207 on-base percentage in 12 games.

The Red Sox originally sent Dalbec to the minors after acquiring first baseman Eric Hosmer from the San Diego Padres. Dalbec has since played 12 games with Worcester, batting .280 with two home runs and five RBIs.

Dalbec is expected to be activated for Saturday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. He could see playing time at first base or designated hitter.
